Halostudy for secondary schools in Tanzania

The center in partnership with Halotel Tanzania is implementing Halostudy project to enhance science and mathematics subjects in secondary schools through of multimedia enhanced content. Halostudy system has content of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics for Form I to Form IV. The content has been enhanced with various multimedia such as audio, video, animations and simulations in order to facilitate self-learning as well as meeting different students’ learning styles. The content is accessible via www.halostudy.ac.tz and users are required to create account to be able to access the content. Students in secondary schools can also access the content using mobile devices through downloading the Halostudy app in Google Play using Android mobile phones.

Games for Kids

The center through eLearning research group have designed and digitized local games to enhance numeracy skills for early grade learners in Tanzania. The developed games then so can be played via mobile devices and computers. So far, three games namely Manati, Ruka Kamba, and Danadana (More information can be obtained https://cheza.udsm.ac.tz The games were tested to pupils, and the result showed that pupils found the games were interesting, fun, and enabled them to improve numeracy skills.

Previous projects 

Enhancing University Teaching and Learning capacity through the ICT-Mediated Learning (EUCTL) (2007-2009)

Enhancing University Teaching and Learning capacity through the ICT-Mediated Learning Mode sponsored by Carnegie Corporation of Newyork . Through this project CVL was able to establish three ICT-mediated distance education programmes namely the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management (PGDEM) and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). The programme also staff trainings on the development of course content and online course facilitation skills.

Online Course Migration and Improvement -PHEA’s Education Technology Initiative (ETI) – (2010 – 2012)

The purpose of this project was to migrate and improve existing online course offerings at UDSM from proprietary (Blackboard) to open source LMS(Moodle) as well as supporting staff and students in this shift. It was sponsored by Partnership for Higher Education in Africa (PHEA), a consortium of foundations for the purpose of implementing projects in the Educational Technology Initiative (ETI). CVL through this project has managed to upload over 100 courses on Moodle and undergo further quality improvement of these courses.

Computer Science Interactive Courses project- PHEA’s Education Technology Initiative (ETI) - (2010 – 2012)

The purpose this project is to enhance student learning, in particular to promote independent learning through interaction. It was sponsored by Partnership for Higher Education in Africa (PHEA), a consortium of foundations for the purpose of implementing projects in the Educational Technology Initiative (ETI). Through this Project CVL has Created More than 10 Courses in Computer science enhanced with multimedia elements.
