Prof. Joel S. Mtebe

Associate Professor and Director

Prof. Joel S. Mtebe received B.Sc. Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2002 and Master of eLearning from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia in 2004. He received his PhD in Interactive Technology/Human Computer Interaction from the University of Tampere in Finland. He is a Associate Professor of information systems at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Dar es Salaam. He has taught Research Methodology, Advanced Human Computer Interaction, Information Systems Development and Management, and Cloud Computing. Prof Mtebe has supervised a number of Masters, and PhD students and he has examined a number of Masters and PhD thesis and dissertations. He is coordinating an eLearning Research Group with more than 20 masters and 8 PhD students. He has published more than 25 scientific articles in international journals and presented in several conferences in Tanzania and outside. His research interest include information system implementation, OER, MOOCs, Cloud computing, usability, Learning management systems, Mobile learning etc.

Ms. Sophie Mgaiwa
Ms. Sophie Mgaiwa

Coordinator, External Programs

Sophie Mynah Mgaiwa is a coordinator External Virtual Learning programmes at CVL where she posses multiple responsibilities to make both learners, educators and course providers satisfied. With over 24 years of experience, she is also working as Principal computer systems analyst who devoted most of her time in developing information systems for UDSM and other organizations. At UDSM She created first computerized payroll system and participated in computerization of Financial and Academic Register information systems. She holds MSc information and Automated control systems from KINE, Ukraine and MEd (Instructional Design and Technologies) from Curtin University of Technology in Australia.

Dr. Kennedy F. Mwakisole received B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2004 and Master of Science (Computer Science) of the University of Dar as Salaam in 2008. Currently, he is working as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), University of Dar es Salaam. Currently, He is doing a PhD at the University of Dar es Salaam in the area of cloud computing in education. His reserach areas include cloud computing, elearning, mobile computing, Database management systems, Data mining and knowledge discoveries.

Ms Amina Kiluwasha received Bsc with Computer Science at University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2003 and Master of Multimedia e- Learning Technology at Multimedia University (MMU), Kuala Lumpur- Malaysia in 2011. she attended short courses on Adobe products and Joomla Content Management System (CMS). Currently, she holds a position of senior system administrator at Centre for Virtual Learning (CVL). she has assigned to manage University of Dar es Salaam Moodle Learning Management System (LMS), assist Moodle LMS user on uploading course contents (Resources & activities) and develop courses materials suitable for online students. She also participates on design of different CVL publications such as brochures, flies and newsletter.

Currently I am working as a Manager CVL Mbeya Center, main activities is to conduct all CVL and overseen daily activities at Mbeya. Such activities is coordinate online programmes offered by University of Dar es Salaam (Masters of Engineering Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management and Postgraduate Diploma in Education), provide consultancy services in ICT and Research and Facilitate short courses e.g. Data Analysis, Accounting Package, Web Design, E-learning and so on. I have experience of providing ICT consultancy and facilitating various short courses for more than 12 years through worked with various institutions such as Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), Bank of Tanzania (BoT), TANESCO, Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA), State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), School of Education-UDSM, Mkwawa College of Education-UDSM, Dar es Salaam College of Education-UDSM, BSU project-UDSM, Directorate of Postgraduate studies-UDSM and Ministry of Education Science and Technology-Tanzania.

Godfrey Nkwera received Advanced Diploma in Journalism (Print Media) from St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) in Mwanza in 2002, Postgraduate Diploma in Scientific Computing(PGDSC) from University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in 2006 and Master of Arts in Journalism and Media studies specialising in New Media and Health Journalism from Rhodes University, South Africa in 2015. He is currently a senior Multimedia Producer/Developer at the Centre for Virtual Learning(CVL) College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT). He is involved in training Academic staff in using technologies in teaching such as Learning Management System(Moodle) and development of course materials. He is also very good in qualitative data analysis and interpretation. He has strong experience and expertise in Nvivo, Maxqda and Atlas.ti. These are the most powerful and popular software for qualitative and mixed method analysis. He has trained over 200 MA and PhD students from UDSM, Ardhi University, CBE, IFM, Open University of Tanzania (OUT), MUHAS, St. Augustine University of Tanzania(SAUT) and other students doing similar programs in Europe, Australia, India and China. He is very good in integrating Reference Management software like Endnote, Zotero and Mendeley with Nvivo for literature review writing. He has trained several people how to use Mendeley and Nvivo for Literature Review writing purposes. He is also very good in ODK Technologies for Mobile phone data collection. He has configured KoBoToolbox and deployed surveys, trained data collectors and supervised them. This include creating projects in KoBoToolbox, creating surveys, skip logics, consistencies, creating online rosters. He also conducts training in Video shooting, Social Media, Multimedia Storytelling, Online Marketing and Public Relations, Corporate Documentary, Crisis Management, Crisis Communication and Monitoring and Evaluation(M&E).

Mr. Maximillian Makungu received Advanced Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) in 2004, and Postgraduate Diploma in Electronics and Information Technology from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in 2006. For 14 years, he has been working at the University of Dar es Salaam as a Senior Systems Administrator, specializing in Graphic and Multimedia Design for educational materials. He has attended some multimedia training at University of Colombo (Colombo, Sri Lanka) in 2008, Multimedia University (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) in 2009, Centre for Excellence in Telecommunications Technology and Management (Mumbai, India) in 2010 and Pan-African E-Network Project (New Delhi, India) in 2011. He is registered by Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Graduate Telecommunications Engineer. During the UDSM 50-year anniversary in 2010, he emerged a winner for the slogan competition. His slogan “Advancing Knowledge, Creating Futures”is from then to date being officially in use to mark the 50 years anniversary of the University of Dar es Salaam
