Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is offered to candidates who wish to earn a teaching qualifi- cation after graduating in any degree programme except education. Now you will pursue PGDE wherever you are. All you need is a computer that is connected to internet. We will deliver all the course modules in an interactive and motivating mode directly to your computer.
What will you study
The programme consists of ten compulsory courses and several electives that are offered flexibly and suited to individual students’ needs. The programme includes practicum which is aimed at orienting the student to the real world of teaching.
The compulsory courses are:
Principles of Curriculum Development and Teaching, Introduction to Educational Psychology, Principles of Education, Research Methods and Data Analysis, Classroom Interaction & Research, Didactics, As- sessment and Evaluation, Management of Education and School Administration, Practicum and Field Report.
Elective Units that offered flexibly to meet student needs are:
Human Rights Education, Adult Learning, Language Education, Library Education and Information Man agement, Introduction to Entrepreneurial Education, Administrative & Organizational Behavior, Human Resources Development in Educational Organizations, Sociology of Education, Educational Guidance and Counseling and Theory and Practice of Fitness Promotion
How will you be Assessed
There are both formative and summative procedures for assessing the PGDE programme. In additional to course work assessment, there is a final University Examination that is conducted at the University of Dar es salaam or at UCC (Mwanza or Arusha Branch). Test and assignments are conducted on-line and you don’t need to come to the University to complete your course work. Course work Assessment carries 50 marks and the final University examination carries 50 marks.
Who May Apply?
To be able to be considered for admission into PGDE- online programme candidate should posses a Bach- elor Degree in any field from a recognized university or other higher education Institution.

This is a Distance Mode Online Programme with few face to face sessions that will be conducted at the University Main campus and at the University Computing Centres (Mwanza and Arusha branches). Furthermore students will access all learning materials and have online discussions with their lecturers through the Learning Management System (LMS). Students may access the Learning System anywhere where there is Internet connection
